ABOUT 'FIRST LIGHT'

Sibling Revelry are a brother and sister duo who have been performing, composing and recording in the Jewish community and beyond for a number of years. Laiya has been writing original material since the age of fourteen and is an accomplished and versatile songstress and entertainer.

David compliments his sister’s lyrical voice with beautifully arranged backing and skilfully played keyboards and has also collaborated on some of the original works on their C.D. entitled “First Light”. This album is a collection of songs that reflect Laiya’s spiritual journey as an Australian born Jewish woman, and addresses a broad range of current themes such as Disability and inclusiveness with “Just Like You Just Like Me”.

She explores Jewish identity and cultural diversity with her song “Native Birds In Flight” that draws parallels between the Jewish people and indigenous Australians as ancient cultures who have historically survived persecution.

The opening track, “The Place Of Stone”, tells the story of the Kotel, the only remaining outer wall of the Temple of King David (The Bait Ha mikdash), and metaphorically correlates its survival as a symbol for the remarkable survival of the Jewish people through the ages in the face of so much adversity. It conveys the idea that the Kotel still stands against all odds just as we continue to flourish as a people.

Environmental issues are portrayed in songs like “The Crystal Tree”. Also in “Fire In The Forest “a song by Rahel, about the inner fire of the torah that burns inside each Jewish soul like a flame that rises ever upward trying to connect to the Source of all things. This song was inspired by the Baal Shem Tov, the founder of Chasidism.

Another, co - written with Rahel called “The Farmer”, also express’s deep Kabbalistic concepts in relation to the purpose of life and creation. In others, such as “Le Kel Chai” and “Tefilah Le David”, Laiya has woven tehillim (psalms) into the fabric of the song.

In the title track “First Light” Laiya sings about hope for a brighter future.

This exploration in song has taken many paths and continues to be an unpredictable voyage through the wild and unchartered terrain that is called “Life”.

Sibling Revelry strives to uplift with their inspirational music which is universally relatable; addresses contemporary issues and speaks to all generations.
